Skull
Buffalo tracks design on a full cow skull. The design is the
style of buffalo vertebrae and tracks, to honor the herd and assure that
there were enough to hunt and survive. Decoration is buckskin thongs, glass
crow beads, tin cones, bone hairpipe, beads, bells and imitation eagle
feathers.

Buckskin Bags
Bags were used to carry everything from a babies umbilical
cord after birth, sacred herbs used in ceremonies, to the stone points used
on arrows, spears and atl-atls. Various sizes and styles using glass crow,
pony, and seed beads, bone and horn hairpipe beads, bells, cones, abalone
shells, feathers and chipped stone.

Possibles Bag
While buckskin bags were worn draped over a belt or a thong
around the waist, these bags were used by Native Americans and the early
trappers to carry their personal possessions. Painted with the Arapajo
symbol for life (circa 1820), decorated with brass bells, glass crow and
pony beads, bone skull beads, sand cast beds and feathers.

Wall Hanging
A wood backing with painted buckskin covering
is modeled after the Kiowa "Bird Honoring" shield (circa 1860). Birds were
the messengers from the Thunder Beings who liked the heavens. Birds were
also honored for their ability to see far - which included into the
future. Imitation hawk feathers, bone skull beads, glass crow and seed
beads, and a 3" power crystal.

Cradleboard
Cradleboards were used to take care of
babies while the mothers were picking berries, fleshing a hide, or moving
(since Native Americans were nomadic people). It can be carried as a
backpack, tied to the travois, hung form a saddle horn, or leaned against a
rock or a tree. Made in the Lakota style using pine wood covered with
buckskin and decorated with brass tacks, glass crow beads, seashells, trade
cloth and imitation eagle feathers. Lined with rabbit fur for comfort.

Antelope Horn War Club
Applewood handle and large antelope
horn to assure the user the speed of the antelope. Decorated with trade
cloth, brass tacks, buckskin, glass crow beads, solid brass beads and turkey
tail feathers.

Dance Fan
Imitation eagle feathers and
fox fur to give the dancer speed and cunning in the upcoming battle.
Finished with trade cloth, buckskin, bone hairpipe beads, and glass pony and
seed beads.

Antelope Horn Dance Wand
This wand was used to transfer the speed off the
antelope to the dancer. Wand also has rattlesnake skin for power, feathers
for elusiveness and fox fur for cleverness. Made from cedar root with trade
cloth wrap, buckskin brass tacks, bells, bone beads and bone carved bear
claws.

Artist's Bio: Soaring Eagle Designs - Joe Johnson
Joe was born in a small rural
town on the Plains of South Dakota where his love for Native American and
Classic Western cultures were born and nurtured.
Not only is Joe a self taught
artist who does Tonal Drawings using graduated graphite on paper, but he
also uses the Native American culture as an example to use beads, buckskin,
wood and a variety of items to make traditional style clothing, tools, and
weapons from the 1650 to 1850 period of history.
